Green Advisory Board approves statement on artificial turf environmental impacts.
Andover Green Advisory Board · Meeting of April 23, 2026
Andover Green Advisory Board unanimously adopts environmental statement on artificial turf. Chair Bryan Bannon and members Melanie Cutler, Willow Cheeley, Mujde Yuksel, and Ashley Fritz voted 5–0 to approve language warning that artificial turf production, transportation, and disposal create "persistent source of microplastic pollution" and expressing concern about bioaccumulation in Shawsheen and Merrimack River watersheds. The statement, to be read at town meeting on Warrant Article 9 (Chandler Road Project), does not oppose the article but urges investment in natural turf or higher-certification artificial alternatives with full material disclosure.
The board also finalized town meeting speaker assignments and approved prior meeting minutes.
